Accepting and Adjusting During Quarantine

COVID-19 has pushed us into uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory. Work, school, and our personal interactions have all been impacted by the virus. In this article, we want to give you three questions to consider as you continue to adapt and adjust in the midst of the new realities we are facing in quarantine.

What Do I Know Today?

With the situation changing constantly, it can be easy to feel anxious and quickly become frustrated with our lack of information. Instead of dwelling on what you don’t know, focus on what you do know in the moment. In moments you find yourself struggling and need a reminder to focus on today, think of the words of Matthew 6:34: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

What Are My Values Today?

We all value different things, and the virus doesn’t change what’s important to us. Think about the values you have reenforced today, such as time with family, reading God’s Word, respecting others or focusing on your health. Keeping track of a few values and knowing that you are living in alliance with them ensures that you don’t lose sight of what’s important to you.

How Can I Make the Best of It?

It’s easy to feel down when facing the quarantine situation, but resisting what cannot be changed will only make it harder to adjust to the current circumstances. Think of ways in which you can make the best of quarantine so that you can retain a sense of joy and fulfillment in your life.

Moving Forward

We’re going through unprecedented and uncharted territory in our lives right now, which is why if we want to thrive, we need to accept and adjust to changes in our professional, personal, and school lives during quarantine. To do that, we need to take time to ask ourselves questions and take things one day at a time.
